Raising a Glass: Celebrating International Champagne Day

The clinking of glasses, the joyful laughter of friends, and the unmistakable pop of a champagne cork – it’s International Champagne Day on the 27th of October and it’s a day worth celebrating. The key to a truly remarkable champagne experience lies in the details – from the quality of your barware to the proper serving techniques. So, here are a few things that will help you provide the best champagne experience for your customers.

Temperature

The serving temperature is crucial. Champagne is best enjoyed between 7-9°C. If it’s too cold, the flavours may be muted; if it’s too warm, it can taste overly alcoholic. Use a dedicated wine fridge or an ice bucket for quick, controlled chilling.

Storage & Preservation

When storing unopened bottles, keep them upright. Unlike cork-sealed wine bottles, champagne bottles have a mushroom-shaped cork that can be damaged by prolonged contact with the liquid.

If you can’t finish the bottle in one go, invest in a champagne stopper that creates an airtight seal. This helps to preserve the fizz and flavours for up to a day or two. It can also be used between pours.

Serving

When opening a bottle, keep your thumb on top of the cork and twist the bottle gently, not the cork. This minimizes the pressure and prevents the cork from popping violently. The satisfying pop when opening a bottle is fun, but it’s not ideal for preserving carbonation. The aim is to open the bottle with as little noise as possible. Pours should be slow and gentle down the side of the glass, with 1/3 of the glass left empty to allow room for the aroma to develop. Use a tray or a champagne bucket with ice to serve multiple guests efficiently. And make sure you have a stand when table space is limited to keep it close to the people being served and to add a bit of theatre!

For a champagne experience filled with luxury, sophistication, and elegance, the Beaumont range has got you covered.
